I have lived on Bowen Island since 1988. Since April 2005 I have been a Realtor working full time (plus) and exclusively on the Island under the auspices of Macdonald Realty.
In 2009 I reached Bowen Island’s Top Producer status in both Listings and Sales and I have retained that position ever since. For 9 years I’ve had Medallion Club status – being in the top 10% of realtors throughout the lower mainland by the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV).
My past work experience has been diverse and has given me an excellent foundation for entering into the real estate field. I was a pharmaceutical sale representative for 8 years which provided a good education in sales and marketing. For 12 years I was the BC Executive Director of a national guide dog school. Just prior to obtaining my real estate license I owned and operated Elliott Gardening Services for 7 years catering to over 150 clients on Bowen Island. I sold the business to another company in 2004. At the same time I was a part-time Animal Control Officer which then evolved into a part-time Bowen Island Bylaw Officer.
I spent most of my years growing up on the North Shore. Like many others I felt the lure of Bowen Island and moved here in 1998 when my two boys were 10 months and 2 years old. This has been a wonderful community in which to bring them up in and now at ages 29 and 31 they value Bowen Island as much as I do. I was a single parent to my kids since 1993.
My kids attended the Bowen Island Community School, Rockridge Middle School and West Vancouver High School. My eldest son, Frazer, graduated from the University of Victoria with a BA majoring in History with a minor in Political Science, and a BEd from UBC in 2010.
He has had 2 years teaching at the college level in Hobart Tasmania, Australia. In 2013 he married his long time German girlfriend, Janina Micko PHD GeoChemist, on the beach at Tunstall Bay and they have now moved back to Bowen and recently welcomed their first baby boy, Kellan. My youngest son Bryn graduated in 2011 with his Masters in Engineering from Queens University in Kingston. He and his partner, Steph Shorter, married in August 2016 and also expect to move back to Bowen soon at which time Steph would like to continue her medical practice as a Family Practitioner on Bowen Island.
I have been active in many different ways on Bowen over the years. Most recently as Past President of the Tunstall Bay Community Association and Board member of the Bowen Island Community Foundation.
For the foreseeable future I am dedicated to life as a realtor and will work hard to improve and act honourably as a realtor with integrity, and act in the best interests of our clients – either Buyers or Sellers.
I moved to Bowen when I was just a couple years old, and loved my childhood on this island. After finishing Bowen Island Community School, I commuted to Rockridge and West Van High before leaving Bowen for university. Before moving back to Bowen in 2014 and becoming a realtor with Dee, I worked as a high school and college history and geography teacher in Tasmania, Australia, and had other jobs in outdoors/mountaineering equipment sales, copper and gold exploration in Northern BC, and behind-the-scenes work in provincial and federal elections.
My hobbies include acting on stage with various Bowen theatre troupes, playing guitar, fly fishing, kayaking, soccer and travel. My favourite country to visit is Nicaragua, where I have visited in 2003, 2009 and 2013 doing community development and solidarity projects.
What I love the most about Bowen are the fascinating, fun, and often quirky people that make up our community.
I was introduced to Bowen Island in 1990 through a long time friend and was captured by its beauty, the community, and its proximity to Vancouver. I was drawn back time and time again and knew that one day I would make Bowen my home. I began my full time real estate career in 2017. Born and raised in small town Ontario, I graduated from the University of Waterloo obtaining a Bachelor of Mathematics with a minor in Fine Arts.
After discovering the burgeoning field of 3D computer graphics, where I could combine my technical and creative talents, my career choice became clear. I eventually moved to Los Angeles where my contributions helped garner Academy Awards for the groundbreaking Visual Effects on the films ‘The Golden Compass’ and ‘Life Of Pi’. After 18 years in the US I returned to Canada to continue my Visual Effects career and added the award-winning films ‘The Revenant’, and ‘OKJA’, to my resumé.
I have also been successful in the world of purebred dogs and became involved in exhibiting champion Smooth Fox Terriers while in California. My dogs have won Best In Shows in the U.S. and Australia, and I have champions in the US, Chile, Denmark, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. I am also known in the show dog community for my series of high end coffee table photography books. I now judge from time to time.
In my free time I am revisiting my fine art background and am enjoying being a member of the Bowen Island Arts Council. I am also inspired by the many talented musicians on Bowen and have plans to get playing keyboards again on a more regular basis. My favourite thing to do, though, is hike with my dogs on the trails of Crippen Park where regular sightings of deer, owls, otters, beavers, eagles, and ravens, keep me in awe of the beauty that is Bowen Island.
